Anxiety, fear, and Depression are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we may experience at some point in our lives. Anxiety and Depression can be different sides of the same coin. Anxiety can lead to Depression, and Depression can bring up feelings of Anxiety. Should you suffer from one, or both, Talk Therapy can help by teaching you how adjust your thoughts and actions, learning how to communicate better, or giving you the skills to problem solve and manage your symptoms. Through counseling and treatment, you are able to help yourself recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life. Often times when you learn there's a name for what you're suffering with, and someone to help you manage it, it can lead to improvement in your life while you learn these new skills.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Maintaining a relationship is a lot of work. Relationships can often be enhanced by therapeutic "tune-ups" where issues can be addressed in a safe, cooperative space where both partners can speak freely in a collaborative setting, rather than a combative one. Therapy sessions are held with a couple and become a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
Sometimes however, relationships are not able to succeed for a variety of reasons. In these cases, Therapy can assist the transition through separation, divorce, and a new life beyond marriage, or partnership.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) now affects 1 in 59 children, with boys 4 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed. Your loved ones are unique and special, which means their treatments should be too. Treatments are individualized for each person, and developing trust between your loved one and a therapist is our first therapeutic intervention, followed by behavioral therapy and learned coping skills, which reflect their lives, their interests, and their experience.
Grief is a process that's different for everyone. Therapy can assist in processing death and dying, as well as recognizing the effects of loss on your life and personal relationships.
Long Term Illnesses and End of Life Issues are also something that all of us will face, either as caregivers, or active participants in the act of dying. Facing the end of life can be a frightening process for all involved, but it doesn't have to be that way. Achieving understanding, comfort and peace, while working within a client's faith, or absence of faith, is possible with therapeutic intervention.
A person’s sexual, or romantic orientation, or gender identity should not be a source of distress. However many people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual, or any other orientation or gender identity may find that the social stigma of living as a minority is a source of stress or anxiety.
Despite rapidly growing cultural acceptance of diverse sexual and romantic orientations and gender identifications, oppression, discrimination, and marginalization of LGBTQIA people persists. Coping with discrimination and oppression, coming out to one’s family, and sorting out an “authentic” sense of self in the face of social expectations and pressures can lead to higher levels of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and other mental health concerns for LGBTQIA people.
Although I'm not a member of the LGBTQIA Community, I am supportive and comfortable offering counseling support.
